D Train, is an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, producer and actor. He rose to fame in the early 1980’s with the release of his first album “You’re the One for Me”, which spawned his first US Billboard Dance chart number-one hit, “You’re the One for Me”. His debut album (under the Prelude Records label) would also chart with the hits “Keep On” and the much covered Burt Bacharach hit “Walk On By”. He would go on producing hits on the follow-up album “Music” and “Something’s On Your Mind”. He was then signed Columbia Records, producing more hit singles on the albums “Miracles of the Heart” and “In Your Eyes” as well as producing additional albums under his own label, including “701 Franklin Avenue”.

As a songwriter, D Train has written for numerous artists, including Patti Austin, George Duke, Carl Anderson, John P. Key and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. He has lent his voice on songs for artists such as Michael Jackson, Elton John, Carrie Underwood and Mary J. Blige and among others as well as numerous television and film soundtracks. He also hosted “The D Train Show” for many years on SiruisXM satellite radio and has enjoyed great success as one of the leading jingle vocalists in the industry.

D Train has a wide vocal range and his music has been influenced by Nat King Cole, Paul Robeson, Jackson Five, Tony Bennett, Mario Lanzo, Billy Epstein, Al Green, Bobby Womack, Mel Tormé and Carl Anderson. His artistic influences include Rock, R&B, Soul, Dance, House, Blues, Gospel, Contemporary Christian and Traditional Native American.

For the nearly 20 years, D Train has been the Music Director for “United Stations Radio Network”, a New York-based radio and media company founded by Dick Clark and Nick Verbitsky.

D Train sang the original “Pokérap”, the official closing credit theme song for the cartoon Pokémon. The song also appeared on the show’s official soundtrack. He also provided vocals for songs for the film “South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut”.

D Train co-wrote and sang the anthem for the Montauket Nation in 2010, which was selected by the Montauket Nation as their official anthem. In appreciation, the Montauket Nation bestowed the honorary name of “Cloud” to D Train.

In 2013, “You’re The One For Me” was featured in the release (and 2014 re-release) of Rockstar Games video game “Grand Theft Auto V”.

For the past three years, D Train has been performing at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., sharing the stage with Garth Brooks, Sheila E., Steve Winwood and many others.

D Train’s forthcoming seventh album, “The Other Side Of The Tracks” is slated for release in the summer of 2015.


Born and nurtured in Brooklyn, New York, James "D Train" Williams began his singing career at age 6. He sang in many church choirs and school choirs. While attending school at Erasmus High School he earned the prestigious title “D Train” as a Defensive Tackle, football star. (”When he hits you, you felt the impact of the Train”). James’ career came into play by a chance meeting, while helping out his fellow classmate the legendary Will Downing in the studio, he met producer Hubert Eaves III and the two embarked on a musical journey of Number 1 Billboard Hits.

James "D Train" Williams gave memorable and fresh-sounding R&B/dance tracks of the early to mid-1980’s. Along with Hubert Eaves III their first single, the brilliant “You’re The One For Me,” was released on Prelude Records in 1981. The song hit number one on the dance chart in early 1982 and kept that position for three weeks. Their first album for Prelude was 1982’s entitled “You’re The One For Me.” The album stormed the club charts and produced three powerhouse 12″ singles. Besides the stunning title track it also featured “Keep On” and the much-covered “Walk On By.”

“Music,” D Train’s second album, followed in 1983 and was supported with another batch of singles: “Keep Giving Me Love,” “Are You Ready For Me,” and the major club smash “Music” amongst them. “Something’s On Your Mind,” Followed by “Oh how I Love You Girl”, top 10 R’N’B hit, "Misunderstanding" (from his debut Columbia album, “Miracles of The Heart”,) “In Your Eyes”, and a host of others.

Having signed to the Epic/Prelude label, they found greater success in the UK than in their home country. They enjoyed three UK Top 30 hits with “You’re The One For Me” (1982), “Music, Part 1″ (1983) and “You’re The One For Me (Remix)” (1985). DTrain’s biggest US hit was the Billboard R&B Top 5 single, "Something’s On Your Mind" (1983).

James “D’Train" Williams has worked with the following artists; Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross (Dance With MY Father CD), Vanessa Williams (Everlasting Love CD) Bette Midler, Cher, Mary J. Blige Cheryl Lynn, Patti Austin, Kirk Whalum, Judy Collins, Aaron Carter, Elton John (Aida CD), Clay Aikins (Christmas CD), Natalie Cole (Snowfall On The Sahara CD), and many others.

Along with singing background vocals on CD’s for many outstanding artists, James DTrain Williams is one of the number one Jingle vocalists in the industry. Spots such as; Be All That You Can Be (Amy & Navy), Verizon, Kmart, Pampers, Got Milk, Cotton, AT & T, Optimum Online, New Jersey Bell, Kodak, Nescafe, Hanes, Budweiser, Home Improvement, and New York One to name a few.

James has appeared in such films as: “Keeping The Faith” with Ben Stiller, “A Walk In The Park “with Richard Gere & Winona Ryder and “ Perfect Stranger “ where he performs two songs in the movie. “You Sexy Thang” by Hot Chocolate and “My Funny Valentine “ He is also the lead Vocalist for the television theme Pokemon, Pokemon The Movie and background vocalist for Walt Disney’s “Hercules” The Movie.

James continued his musical journey and shared his soulful voice as an On Air Personality with Sirius Satellite Radio from 2001 to 2008 on Channel 51 “Heart And Soul”.

Most recently James Performed as part of the “Buddy Guy and Led Zepplin Tribute Band” at “The 2012 Kennedy Center Honors” working with Bonnie Raitt, Tracy Chapman, Kid Rock, The Foo Fighters, Ann and Nancy Wilson Of the group“Heart”and Lenny Kravitz.

Forging his name into the fabric of music history, James continues to live his mantra of “Sky is the limit and you gotta Keep On!

In 2001, SiriusXM satellite radio signed D Train to host “The D Train Show” on the Heart & Soul Channel 51 on the dial. The show was a blend of R&B music and guest interviews. Some notable guests included Lionel Richie, Roberta Flack, Jet Li, John Legend, Chaka Khan and Alicia Keys. The show ran until 2008.
